Governor's Message - November 2023

Nov 22, 2023

Happy November, Rotary friends! This month, we are recognizing Rotary Foundation Month, so I am excited to hear about what all of the clubs are up to! With World Polio Day just a couple of weeks ago (Oct 24th), I’d like to thank the large number of clubs who hosted dinners, game nights, pub crawls and a number of other fundraisers; with every dollar raised, we are another step closer to eradicating this horrible disease from the planet.

This month’s Governor Video Challenge has been posted on the District. Clubs are being challenged to host an event to raise awareness for The Rotary Foundation. The event can be for your club or for the community. Some clubs are engaging their members by offering point matching, while others are playing trivia games or other fellowship evenings to help raise money. Think about why YOU contribute to The Foundation and share your thoughts with your club or on social media. Post stories online about projects that your club supports, thanks to District or Global Grants. When your club recognizes Rotarians as Paul Harris Fellows (or any other level, for that matter), make it a special moment; remind all of your members about The Foundation and how the money is spent. Consider showing one of the many Rotary International videos about The Foundation, or ask the recipient why they choose to contribute funds to The Foundation. Remember that everyone has a story to tell. Those stories are often the effective way to inspire others to contribute.

October was a busy month for District 5060. We hosted our First Quarter Business Meeting and annual Past Governors Event in Osoyoos, a new District Governor Designate was selected (congratulations Jill Leonard from Wenatchee!) and another successful Rotary Learning Institute was held (thank you Ellensburg Morning Club for hosting). There is always something going on in District 5060, so please be sure to keep checking the website or social media for upcoming events.

I’ve really been enjoying the club visits, and am still absolutely amazed by all of the fantastic work that clubs are doing in their communities and around the world. Thank you to all of you; I am so grateful to be a part of an organization where the members are so engaging, inspiring, motivational, and are continutally working to CREATE HOPE IN THE WORLD.
