Rotary Youth Exchange - Arrivals and Departures

Lots is happening in Rotary 5060 Youth Exchange (RYE)! Over the last month, members of RYE committees across the district have been very busy. We sent out 17 students to countries all over the world, including Japan, Taiwan, Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Brazil, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Italy. Within a span of a few weeks, we also welcomed exchange students from those same countries and helped them settle into life in District 5060.

On the second weekend of September, our inbound students, district committee officers, Youth Exchange Officers, and counselors traveled to Camp Lutherhaven to join the students of District 5080 at their Orientation Weekend near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Students and Rotarians alike spent time in training sessions while also getting to hang out by the lake with new friends. This year we have several weekend events planned for the students to get together and to learn about North American culture. Students will get to go skiing at Silverstar near Vernon, BC, and go ice fishing and snowshoeing in Merritt. They also will get to share their own culture and expertise with next year’s outbounds at the Outbound Orientation Weekend in the spring.

We hope that by the time they leave, they will always consider District 5060 to be their second home.
