BUILDING A NEW GENERATION OF LEADERS
Rotary provides incredible opportunities for young people to become engaged and involved in the world around them. These programs help develop the next generation of young leaders to expand their education, learn the value of service, and build leadership skills.
Rotary Youth Exchange
High school students have an incredible opportunity to expand their horizons globally through a fully funded year abroad sponsored by Rotary clubs in over 100 countries. During this exchange program, students can learn a new language, develop essential leadership skills, immerse themselves in another culture, and forge lasting friendships with peers from around the world.
The Student Exchange initiative takes students from their home country and sends them to another country for up to a year, while simultaneously hosting students from other countries. The list of participating countries includes Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Turkey, India, and many more. Participating in these exchanges often proves to be transformative for students. Not only do they learn a new language, but they also gain profound insights into the diverse cultures and traditions of the countries they visit.

A key lesson that students often internalize during these experiences is the mantra, “It’s not wrong or right, it’s just different.” This mindset shift fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity.
The ultimate aim of the program is to promote peace, understanding, and friendship across the globe. By fostering genuine connections and understanding with people from different backgrounds, participants cultivate friendships that transcend borders. Many consider this exchange program to be the pinnacle of Rotary initiatives, as it embodies the organization’s core values of goodwill and international cooperation.
